Just over a year has passed since I returned to London and found myself back at square one again. It’s been a year of healing, feelings and lots of reflection. You don’t quite realise how much life pulls you in different ways, here and there, just for you to seemingly come full circle.
After getting my heart broken and having to move cross-country (for the second time), I’ve learnt a lesson or two (never again lol), and decided to throw myself into being myself again. So of course it felt natural to return to things that make me happy, which include writing. It’s been a while – a whole decade probably – but here I am thinking maybe it’s as good a time as any to start up the ole blog again.
I ummed and ahhed about whether to do it, or whether to start a new one completely – but in the end, all of these experiences, no matter the outcome, are my stories, and they’re all stories I think are worth telling.
It’s not all doom and gloom. This is first and foremost a blog celebrating curiosity, change and the experiences that make us who we are today. Travel and exploration has always been at the heart of this space, but over time I’ve come to realise what matters most. It’s the things we pick up along the way – the small yet meaningful exchanges, local lingo, lifelong friendships, and most importantly I think, the developed versions of ourselves. I want to share with you all the learning experiences, life’s little and big moments, as well as the many versions of Sam that have emerged over the years. I started this blog as a way of documenting my adventures abroad (a whole 13 years ago, WELP) and I do feel blessed to have lived many lives since then, from the days of Erasmus to bustling Madrid, living in Mexico, then Athens, before finding work again in Canary Wharf, which in a strange turn of events, I’ve come to love.
The story’s taken some twists and turns but I appreciate anyone willing to come along for the ride – I don’t have a particularly structured plan for this blog, but such is life! Hopefully it resonates with some of you, hopefully it makes some of you chuckle, and hopefully it simply serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to take the leap and do the damn thing! Moving countries, starting over again, choosing to do something new… it’s all scary no matter what stage you are in life, but I think it’s worth while. I hope anyone who reads my posts can take that sentiment from it too. Here’s to another chapter!
